Tina Dozauer-Ray, Author of Too Many Zucchini for Zachary Beany

About the Author

Tina Dozauer-Ray grew up gardening on a farm in southern Iowa. Some of her earliest memories are of her mother's rambling fruit and vegetable gardens: she still vividly remembers catching a fat bumble bee on a chive blossom with her bare hands and getting stung! She also remembers the rare taste of golden raspberries and fresh Concord grapes, still warm from the sun.

Tina earned degrees in vocal performance and German studies from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Oberlin College, in Ohio, as well as a Masters degree in music education from Colorado University in Boulder. She has taught vocal music in the Boulder Valley Schools for the past ten years.

Tina Dozauer-Ray currently lives and gardens in Louisville, Colorado. She has 2 young sons, Toby and Max, who love to garden with her. (Toby's favorite crop is beets, while Max's is pumpkins.) She has been married to James Ray, a naturopath and chiropractor, for 9 years.

Tina was moved to write Too Many Zucchini for Zachary Beany by her love of gardening with her children, as well as the Midwestern legends of summer zucchini bounty. It was important to her to include seeds and a recipe with the book so that children could share Zachary's experiences. She believes that every child should have the pleasure of growing his own food with a loved one. Tina hopes that many children will continue gardening throughout their lives and eventually pass this gift on to another child someday.
